Capital Crossroads SID Notes

Each year, Capital Crossroads presents several awards at their annual meeting held in November, one each for Aesthetic Contribution, Outstanding Service and Outstanding Achievement. Please send your nominations for these categories to Kacey Campbell at KACampbell@sidservices.com by October 8. Nominees must be located within the SID boundaries (see http://www.downtowncolumbus.com/docs/Crossroads%202007%20Boundary.pdf for boundaries) and be for work done within the last year.

News and Notes

Once again this year, plan to celebrate Columbus over Columbus Day weekend with Experience Columbus Days. During the weekend of October 10 - 13, take advantage of 50% off admission to Columbus' best attractions and 25% off Dine Originals Columbus restaurants. The Capitol Square Foundation and the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board have opened nominations for the "Great Ohioan" Award, which commemorates special Ohioans who have played a significant role in an event or series of events of lasting significance in world, American or Ohio history. Additional criteria include being born in Ohio or having lived in Ohio for a minimum of five years and at least 25 years having passed since the event in which the nominee participated occurred. All citizens, including teachers and students, are encouraged to participate in the nomination process. The deadline for nominations is Monday, December 1, 2008. The Capitol Square Foundation will select two nominees from each category to submit for selection to the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board; recipients will be announced and recognized in early 2009.

The Greater Columbus Arts Council is hosting their 2008 Public Forum entitled "Integrating Public Art into City Design." The event looks at how a city can and whether it should integrate public art into city planning. Maurice Cox, Director of Design for the National Endowment for the Arts, will address that issue.

NPR's Talk of the Nation Broadcast, Live from WOSU@COSI
Wednesday, October 8, 2 - 4 pm

This event is presented by WOSU Public Media, the Columbus Metropolitan Club and NPR. NPR's nationally-syndicated midday news talk program, Talk of the Nation, will broadcast live from WOSU@COSI for an election-themed program. A question and answer session featuring WOSU's Fred Andrle and Talk of the Nation host Neal Conan will take place immediately following the broadcast until 5 pm. The program will examine the presidential campaign and how Ohio is once again a key battleground state in the national election. Be part of the live studio audience; the event is no-cost, but registration is required and seating is limited. 2008 Haunted Statehouse Tours

The Ohio Statehouse has kicked off ticket sales for the 2008 Haunted Statehouse Tours. This event has sold out during the previous three years. Guests enjoy a combination of history and legend in this special family-friendly (10 and older) haunted tour.
