Tongues have been wagging over the brand new 3-D sign installations downtown.

Giant vodka-soaked lips?  Check.
Big rolling dice?  Roger that.

But it's the old classics that we really love.  Artist Angie Harris (who photographs signs) casts her vote for a particular High Street institution...

Click here to find out which classic downtown sign wins Harris's vote.

Recycling Tip

Recycling Tip

The Columbus Department of Public service is recommending a new yard waste subscription program for weekly residential collection to replace the former contract with Rumpke.  The City is now recommending an allocation of up to one million dollars to Rumpke to allow the company to provide collection services at a relatively low cost to residents.  If you want to avoid any charge, you could always start your own compost pile!

Inside43215 Irish Spring Irish Spring

There's the famous Irish greeting: Top of the morning to you!

And there's a traditional response to that comment.  The response is not, for the record, And also to you.  That's what people say in church.

We got schooled in St. Pat's by none other than Jenny Hauenstein.  Doesn't sound very Irish?  Hauenstein is her married name.  She's a Byrne, one of seven kids from Columbus's most celebrated Irish family.

Click here to find out the correct Irish response to "Top of the morning to you!"

Building Blocks

With a few swift blows of a sledgehammer, the demolition of the 90-year-old Town Street Bridge is underway.  Community leaders gathered March 16 to celebrate the start of the demolition and the replacement Rich Street Bridge, which will include 10-foot-wide pedestrian sidewalks, two westbound lanes and one east bound lane, connecting the east side of the Scioto River with the RiverSouth District.  Demolition should take the rest of the year, with construction on the Rich Street Bridge beginning in 2010.

Fans of the Biggie have hit hard times in Downtown Columbus.  Long gone are the days of double dipping at the dueling downtown Wendy's.  No more Biggie Cokes, Biggie Fries or Triple Bacon Cheeseburgers.

On the bright side, a new join named Barrio has debuted in the building-formerly-known-as-Wendy's at Spring and High.  It offers up Spanish cuisine.  Sounds scary?  Actually, there's lots of solace there for the burger crowd...

It was announced last week that a 160 million dollar, 500-room Convention Center Hotel will soon come to Columbus.  This new, full-service convention headquarters hotel, located on the west side of High Street between the Greater Columbus Convention Center and Nationwide Arena, is expected to generate an additional 52,000 annual room nights and help expand Columbus's convention business.  Columbus has lost conventions in the past because we lacked sufficient hotel space; that problem will soon be a thing of the past.
